CANADIAN PACIFIC 1937 AAR BOX CARS
Between 1941 and 1946, the Canadian
Pacific acquired 3850 similar all steel 40’ box cars from the Canadian Car
& Foundry. Although generally built
to the AAR standard design of the era, these cars had some distinctive features
characteristic of the Canadian roads.
Foremost among these was a 5/5 welded
Dreadnaught end. Unlike the ends supplied
for most US built box cars at the time, this design had an additional
corrugation on the top section of the upper end sheet.
This kit is available in 8 versions,
as four different lettering styles are possible and 2 different running boards
were installed. Refer to the list below
to determine what version is appropriate for your modeling era.
The kit contains a pair of polyurethane resin ends, a Pacific Rail Shops undecorated shell with detail parts and trucks, PRS 8 rung ladders, CDS dry transfer lettering, car data with expanded instructions, and a few other bits and pieces required to build an accurate model of this prototype.
This box car is also available as an
unboxed conversion kit (see 500 series below,) for which the modeler must
supply a PRS 10’ IH AAR box car kit (either corner post is acceptable as the ends
are to be removed.) Polyurethane resin
ends, PRS 8 rung ladders, CDS dry transfer lettering, car data with expanded
instructions, and a few other bits and pieces are included.
The CP-00x series of kits were originally released over a decade ago and are currently unavailable.
If sufficient preorders are received, I will consider putting these back into production.
