6’ 3/5/5 Improved Youngstown Door

Shortly after WWII, Standard Railway Equipment Manufacturing Company developed a new version of their Youngstown door.  It featured a raised, riveted seam between each of the three panels and a single door lever centered at the bottom.  The associated starting mechanism was located internally.  Box cars with the new door installed were delivered beginning in 1945.  This polyurethane casting represents a 6 foot wide door, as used on D&M, GN, M&StL, SP, SP&S, and T&NO 10’ IH cars built from 1948 to 1952.  In the future, SRCC will offer kits using this door.
